Running our club is a big job. We are completely voluntary and unpaid. We would like to encourage all parents to get involved and give anything they can. So we'd like to actively encourage peoples involvement and input the committee is one of those places where we'd love to get more people involved. The club has a pro-active policy for parents who wish to get involved in teaching swimming too.

Please ask any of the people listed on this page if you would like to help even if its in a small way.

About our Team...

 Paul
Sippitt

(Coach)

I have been with HSC since 1991 having “got involved” because my children were swimming.   I started out as a teacher but found myself drawn to the coaching side of the club.  I have worked with a number of our past coaches Paul Ferrier, Derek Edwards and Nigel Aldridge before finally taking over as Coach in 2000.   We have seen many changes in the past seven years not only at HSC but in the structure of swimming throughout the UK, during this time we have taken on more pool time and had a period of sustained success.   I have been asked if I will ever give up, well Siân is now 13 (my youngest) so unless some other sport takes her fancy I sure she will be around for a few more years!    My oldest has a daughter who might just start swimming in a few years!!! So who knows?

I am currently taking all the coaching sessions that’s six times a week, 10 and a half hours in all, what with Saturday evenings at galas and open meets some weekends not bad for a volunteer and that is without all the committees I am on!!

I believe swimmers come to coaching sessions because they want to be competitive swimmers and so I get disappointed when they only come to odd sessions and irregularly.  What makes it worse is I am a soft touch and the swimmers know it.    My challenge to all Hinckley club swimmers is that you could easily compete with the best in the Midlands if only you were committed to training, well maybe one day!!!

John Edwards

(Teacher, Swimmer, Designer of kit)
I've been at Hinckley since I joined back in late 1994 when I moved to Hinckley when I was 11, I'd previously swam up in Notts for Bramcote SC.

Things have moved on a bit since then, I began teaching in 1999 in some context when I was sidelined due an eye problem and here I still am! I got my level 1 teaching award in '99 and started assisting Judy Smith with her classes which I did more or less till 2007 whilst picking up cover lessons. Despite being at university from 2001-05 I still managed to keep a little bit still going until I returned.

I took my level 2 award in 2008 and I've subsequently picked up a few more classes. I take a lot of satisfaction from doing it, I mean its more fun than a day job!

I still swim as well, I got roped back into competition when I got back from uni and I had the honour of being the team captain in 08-09, I've never set the world alight, but I enjoy doing it.

I was, for my sins, responsible for the 2009 club kit which has gone down pretty well, which is pleasing!

I'll take the greatest pleasure when I finally get panned by one of the youngsters I've coached!
