Hinckley and City of Leicester swimmer, Ryan Gordon, had the honour of swimming for Leicester in the 47th International ChildrenÆs Games held in Canada earlier this year.

Ryan, 14, who learnt to swim at local club Hinckley Hornets, together with four other swimmers from Leicestershire, joined over 1800 other athletes from over 80 cities around the globe in Ontario, and powered through the water to success in four events.

Ryan reached the B-Finals in 50m, 100m Fly and 100m Free, but the highlight of the Meet was in the 200m Fly where Ryan competed in the A-Final achieving a personal best (2.18.93) and came in 7th overall.

Speaking about his experience Ryan said, "The trip has inspired and motivated me to come back home and train even harder than before so that I can exceed my own goals and aspirations. It is an experience that I will always remember and I am determined to do what it takes to be selected again to compete in Australia next December where I hope to bring back some medals!ö

The Team from Leicestershire came 4th in the medal table for swimming, bringing home three gold, three silver and a bronze medal.

Ryan trains full time with the City of Leicester but still competes for his base club, Hinckley Hornets, and competes in the club championships held once a year and other clubs galas.
