24 May 2013

We have a few good news stories to round up from the start of 2013 up till now, so here it goes....

First off, a belated congratulations to Jack Cave (1st), Carys O Reilly (1st) and James Le Grice (3rd) who picked up podium placings at the LASA mini meet, three galas held in October, December and February.

Secondly, congratulations to all those in our club that have hit Midland Qualifying times this year; Ryan Gordon, Harry Puffett, Joel Weston, Rhys Chiles, Tom Ryan, Josh Munroe, Chloe Parker-Mead, Callum Stretton, Rebecca Orton, and Georgia Petch. Special mention for Josh who has qualified in all available events, which is just staggering!

Thirdly; A unique achievement. A huge congratulations to Sam Oliver who qualified for the Midlands champs in the 12 years 100 Free. Unusually he's not part of the City Of Leicester and is still only trains with us. So he'll be swimming under the Hindkley banner not COL at the champs, so we're chuffed about that, well done Sam!

Fourthly, Joel Weston. Hero! He's made TWO National Qualifying times, the first HSC swimmer this decade to make it, a wonderful achievement and we're all very proud. However, he's now not alone! Ryan Gordon after several near misses in the last 2 seasons has cracked it, and made the NQT in the 14's 100m Fly, we're hoping this will open the floodgates for him now he's got that first one, well done Ryan, superstar. Speaking of superstars, Georgia Petch made it THREE Hinckley swimmers in the nationals having qualified in the 15's 100m Breaststroke in a time that was just eye watering. Its been 6 years since we had a swimmer in there, so to get three in there in one season is fantastic, all those swimmers came through our development path, so it s a great vindication of what we've been doing over the last few years and proof that with the right dedication and work ethic big things are possible!

Fifthly, the epic genius that is Ryan Gordon is to be recognised on the World stage, having been selected to take part in the world childrens games in Canada. How exciting is that?! Awesome, we're pleased as punch for him and wish him a great trip.

Sizthly Joel and Ryan were also nominated as "most improved sportsperson" at the Leicestershire & Rutland games.

Seventhly, we had a number of our guys taking on the 5km swimathon on the 27th April. We had Jamie "JK" Kettle, Tom Bright, Cam Haines, James "Le God" Le Grice, Jess Perry and our teacher Keeley Peace who in fact smashed up her time from last year, impressive skills. We also had the Timms-Shaw clan of Tony, Greg, Owen and Ken in a team relay raising money to support team Nancy.

Eightly Congratulations to our team captains for this year; Sian Sipiitt, Ruth Friswell and Jake Harding in the seniors, Chloe Stretton and Joel Weston in the Gold Diddys, Jamie Kettle and Jess Ttrottman in the Red Diddys. All well deserved.
