Our Junior Water Polo team surprised everyone especially
themselves, by just missing out on winning their first tournament.
First game of the day
was against Grantham ‘C’ and Hinckley’s inexperienced team played brilliantly
to win 2 -0. Next up was Grantham ‘B’, Hinckley growing in confidence won 3-1.
Hinckley 3rd game was against the also unbeaten Northampton ‘green’
team. This was a tight end to end game finishing in a 3-3 draw. Hinckley fourth
game was against Northampton ‘gold’ which Hinckley won comfortably 5-1. The
last game of the day saw Hinckley take on Nottingham Leander. The winner of
this game would win the tournament, Hinckley started well going 1 goal up,
however their inexperience showed as Leander quickly equalised and then 4-1 up.
Hinckley scored again in the dying seconds to end the game 2-4 down. Notts
Leander took first place and Northampton Green second place on goal difference.
Hinckley came a very credible 3rd out of 6 teams in there 1stTournament as a squad. This was a fantastic achievement from the newly formed
team. Every player gave their al, and thoroughly enjoyed the Event. Looking forward
to the next round on 22nd March at Hucknall.
Any swimmer born year 2000 or later who wants to join the
Junior Water Polo team, come to a training session at Hinckley Leisure Centre
19:00 – 20:30.
