29 Dec 2015

2015 has been quite a year! Its the last full year we'll spend in our old pool with the new one arriving in the late spring 2016.

Anyhow, here is a fairly inconclusive review, please send in any further memories or achievements of note to [email protected] so we can add it to this page!

Arena League
After winning promotion at the end of the 2013-14 season, we missed out narrowly on getting back to back promotions last year. This year we made it happen and now face the super-clubs of division one, pretty good going for a small town club.

Diddy League
After coming back down into division two after last season our team fought back and won promotion back to the top division against the big boys. We won two of the three league galas and came third in the final.

County Champs
This years events were quite something. Medals aren't everything but we had a record haul of 82 medals, just to add some perspective, we scored 27 in 2010.

Firs time medallists this year; Jamie Kettle, Sam Munroe, Will Parsons, Chloe Mann, Will Beasley, Dan Ormerod, Macy Norton, Stephen Farrell and one for the old boys...Andy Mackay!

Carys and Dan Ormerod came top of the bagcats points classification as well, Carys for the third year running.

Andy proving its never too late...
 Elite Swimmers

Achievements of note this year; Joel Weston got himself in the top three in the 200m Fly at the British national champs, fantastic achievement to stay up there after winning it in 2014. Ryan Gordon got himself in the top 6 of his 200m Fly as well, which was a stunning achievement.

Josh Munroe came good winning the 50m fly and Freestyle titles at the English National Championships, times that would have had him well up in the final of the British Nationals, so next year could be very interesting indeed!

Jamie Kettle had a sensational year, he really came of age, smashing all time club records on the Breaststroke events again and again, making the finals of the English National 50 & 100m events.

We had Tom Ryan, Josh Munroe and Joel Weston at the International childrens games in the Netherlands, winning silver in the 4x100 medley and free relays as a team with only one swimmer from another club! Joel won silver in the 200 fly, Tom was also on the podium in the 400 Free.

Carys O'Reilly and James Le Grice took part in their first midlands championships, in effect a year early, it'll be exciting to see the progress they make by next years event.

Joining the City of Leicester contingent on a full time basis Will Beasley graduated in the summer and Kieran Bott starts next month, two young men that will be doing damage to other swimmers dreams for years to come!

We also had 5 swimmers join the COL development squad this year, at one stage we had 10, 1/3 of all swimmers in there! Well done to Abe, Dan K, Miles, Tiggy and Lola.

The HSC Swimathon
Our end of year fundraiser was a spectacular event, organised by Keeley and Maddie as a fundraiser for the new pool equipment.

The highlight was Jai Evans monster 12 hour swim, we had Susie, Will P, Jeff completing 10ks, as well as huge all day efforts from Andy Mack, Paul and one of our old-time members Wes Norton.

Opens
We had a good regular crew attending open meets this year. We started off in Sheffield in January, did two meets in Leicester in the spring and Coventry just before the summer break, wrapping up at the Penguins meet in the Autumn.

These guys dominated at Coventry
 Staffing
We had Becky Orton, Tom Bright, Isaac Peace, Charlotte Henney, Joe Tuffin, Jade Cox, Hannah Doran, Lorna Friswell and Anna Duffy all complete their level one teaching or coaching awards this year, the most we've ever got through, so awesome work!

Well done to Angie and Paula who completed their J2 awards, we need more guys like you!

Waterpolo
Our polo guys went from strength to strength, our mens team is getting more and more competitive and our junior team is fast developing into something pretty special, a new pool perfect for polo lands May 2016, the future is bright.

Spare a thought
Everything our members achieved this year, always in the back of our mind will be three people that have had a tough time of it but are in our thoughts.

So Ryan Swain, Tom Ryan and Colin Holden, we're all thinking of you and hope 2016 brings a much deserved upswing for you all.
