Well, it doesn't happen very often. So we'll milk it.

We have a British champion in the club!!!

Rebecca Orton, who's one of our A-team swimmers is also a fine triathlete competing for the Leicester Junior Triathlon club in the under-13 category. Last week was the British inter-regional triathlon finals in Wales.

In what came as a big surprise to herself; she pulled off a stunning victory against the grain. The water was deemed so cold the swim element was replaced by a 550m run turning it into a duathlon. Rebecca did most of the damage on the uphill climb on the bike leg, the slippery, hazardous descent meant her lead was cut down, but a determined gutsy sprint finish helped her triumph against people with perhaps a bigger running reputation!

And to think if she'd had the swim she would have certainly had a bigger lead and been able to waltz home in a Usain Bolt style fashion.

So well done to Rebecca. It just goes to prove if your set your mind to something its amazing what you can achieve.

Swimming is a good base sport and its clearly been a great asset to Rebecca in this case because of her levels of endurance. Swimming is a great asset in any athletic discipline, so even if you don't consider yourself to be a superstar swimmer you may just have what it takes to be a killer triathlete.
