Hinckley Swimming Club is seeking to appoint a Head Coach/ Swimming Director who will lead our team of volunteer teachers and coaches in the delivery of the clubs Learn to Swim and Competition programmes.

The club currently has a swimming membership of over 300 with an age range of 5 to 60 and operates 6 days a week from two facilities in Hinckley.

The position is on a self-employed basis with an hourly rate commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful applicant will be under contract and accountable to Hinckley Swimming Club’s management committee.

 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum of a Swim England Level 2 Coaching Certificate and a proven record of coaching swimming. (Essential)
  • Minimum of a Swim England Level 2 Teacher Certificate and a proven record of teaching swimming. (Desirable)
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance. (Essential)
  • Swim England recognised safeguarding certificate. (Essential)
  • Full valid UK driving license. (Essential)

 Skills Required

  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationship with all coaching staff, committee members, swimmers and their parents.
  • Be an effective communicator, within the club and be comfortable talking with parents, swimmers, fellow coaches and other key people and organisations.
  • A high level of technical knowledge, understanding and implementing long term athlete development.
  • The ability to motivate swimmers to develop and reach their full potential.
  • Good time management skills, ability to use time efficiently and effectively
  • Reliable, flexible and approachable

 Main Duties

  • In conjunction with the club’s management committee organise all swimming related activities.
  • Deliver coaching & teaching sessions as set out in the contract. (currently 13 hours p/w)
  • Ensure that the club follows Swim England’s Learn to Swim and Long Term Athlete Development programmes.
  • Work with the coaching staff to produce annual training plans for all squads
  • Produce squad policies to include entry and exit criteria and commitment levels.
  • Ensure all lessons and sessions are covered by an appropriately qualified teacher/s
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator in implementing a training and CPD programme for teachers and coaches.
  • Mentoring of teachers/coaches within the training programme.
  • Work with the membership secretary over any waiting list and new member trials.
  • Ensure regular assessments of swimmers ability is undertaken to ensure correct and timely movement takes place
  • Monitor the training plans to ensure that the agreed programme is being delivered
  • Ensure all sessions are covered by a suitably qualified coach/s
  • Work with the coaching staff to produce an annual competition plan
  • Attend competitions as determined by the competition plan and ensure all sessions are covered by a suitably qualified member of HSC coaching staff 
  • Work with the open meet secretary in submitting competition entries
  • Liaise with The City of Leicester coaching staff regarding HSC swimmers within their training scheme.

Other Duties/Responsibilities

  • Work with the Club Secretary or the nominated official regarding pool bookings at all facilities used.
  • Be aware of and comply with the Emergency Action Plan and Normal Operating Procedures at all facilities used, including all relevant Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Convene and chair regular teacher/Coach meetings
  • Convene regular parent Q & A session.
  • Attend committee meetings and report on swimming matters.
  • Provide an annual swimming report at the clubs AGM
  • Deal with any minor disputes brought to your attention and if required report such disputes to the appropriate club official
  • Follow the clubs code of conduct for Teachers and Coaches.
  • Follow and promote the Swim England Child Protection policy.
  • Work with the workforce coordinator and welfare officer to ensure all volunteers have the necessary safeguarding and teacher/coaching qualifications.
  • Work with the Clubs SwmMark coordinator to ensure compliance
  • Attend relevant County and Regional coaches meetings.
